Joan Escobet Riu
A distinguished career in veterinary medicine and swine production
I am JOAN ESCOBET RIU (1966). I have a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB). I have worked in various companies from the pig industry. I began my career at PIC ESPAÑA S.A., where I worked between 1990 and 1999, rising to Director of Contract Production. I also spent some time working in the USA and Mexico in order to learn about swine production on large-scale farms with three-site production systems (Isowean®), which I went on to implement in Spain.
From November 1999 to 2003, I worked as Production Director at SAT SUIS, with the task of directing, coordinating and structuring a newly created area. From September 2003 to October 2006, I was Production Manager at DANBRED ESPAÑA S.L., and also spent some time working in Denmark to learn about the company, the Danish production system and the health and genetics program with a view to planning and developing the start-up and duties of the company in Spain. In October 2006, I joined the team of MARCO I COLLELL S.L., now MARCO VETGRUP S.L., specializing in Environmental and Energy Control on farms, as well as carrying out various duties in the company.
Since June 2016, I have been working as a freelance professional, continuing to specialize in order to provide the best possible service in Environmental and Energy Control on Pig Farms. I have organized many courses, published papers in journals and collaborated on various books. I lecture on the Masters degree course in Pig Health and Production (University of Lleida-University of Zaragoza-Complutense University of Madrid). I organize courses and talks on the subject of pig production, housing and facilities and on environmental control.
